COVID-19 Vaccination
About Vaccinations
Vaccinations help protect our bodies from infectious diseases, such as COVID-19, by encouraging our immune systems to produce antibodies which fight infections.
Vaccines are most often given as an injection and are safer to administer as a preventative measure than risking the effects of catching the disease itself.
Your local Urwin Pharmacy branch at Seaton, Mirehouse or Seacliffe will be able to discuss any concerns or queries you may have about COVID-19 vaccinations.
COVID-19 Vaccinations
COVID-19 vaccines are available in the UK for everyone aged 5 years and over. There are three different types of COVID-19 vaccine offered currently in the UK – Moderna COVID vaccine, Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID vaccine and Pfizer/BioNTech COVID vaccine.
The type of vaccine you will be offered will depend on what’s available in your area, your age and whether you have any pre-existing medical conditions. None of these vaccinations contain eggs or animal products but may contain minute amounts of alcohol.
For the best chance of protection, you should have two doses of the COVID vaccine with a gap between each. In some instances, you may also be offered a booster COVID-19 vaccine for further protection.
Possible Side Effects
Vaccinations in the UK must be tested rigorously and be deemed safe before being offered to the general public. Approved COVID-19 vaccinations may have some side effects but these are usually mild and should not last long.
Side effects of COVID vaccines may include a sore arm at the injection site, mild headache, fatigue, achiness and nausea. Serious side effects are very rare and can include blood clotting or allergic reactions.
