The Urwin Pharmacy Group

Gluten Free Supply

Gluten Allergy

Urwin Pharmacies offer gluten free staples for patients who suffer from Coeliac Disease.

Coeliac Disease is a medical condition where an individual is allergic to gluten. The body’s immune system attacks its own tissues when gluten is consumed causing damage to the small intestine which can result in symptoms such as diarrhea, bloating, constipation, vomiting and fatigue.

Gluten is a protein that can be found in wheat and other cereals that are used to make flour and products such as bread, pasta, breakfast cereal and beer.

Availability

Our pharmacies at Seaton, Mirehouse and Seacliffe, offer two options for accessing gluten free products. You can either obtain an NHS gluten free prescription from your GP for a certain number of regular products or you can access the Gluten Free Food Service.

This is a pharmacy led service referred to by your GP where you can collect gluten free products directly from your local pharmacy without the need for a prescription. Urwin Pharmacies are a participating member of this scheme and as such stock a range of gluten free food items including gluten free bread and gluten free flours.

Eligibility

In order to access the Gluten Free Food Service, you must have been diagnosed with Coeliac disease or Dermatitis herpetiformis by your GP and have been referred to this scheme.
